A typical beachshack, and none the poorer for it. Santana is one of the little open-air restaurants situated on Mahabalipuram Beach. Yes it derives it?s name from the guitar maestro ? Santana but that only because it was owned by an Englishman who was a big fan of Santana. The walls have pieces of Indian art painted at random places, and the inner kitchen (where the public is allowed) houses a lobster pond (lobsters cost around `600 and can be eaten with rice, boiled vegetables and chips). The eating area is airy, while the food itself is predominantly from the seas beyond. You have to try the tiger and jumbo prawns, tuna, soul fish and squid among others. The Tawa-fried Calamari is very tasty, moderately spiced, soft and with that mild tang. Nice open restaurant with good collection of fresh sea food. The rooms are clean and comfy, and all of this is at very affordable prices. It is perfect for a relaxing weekend, where you can sip coffee sitting in the balcony with the strong sea breeze gushing across your face. The beach is right next to the hotel, and finding a means of transportation to go sight seeing is very easy. less «
